Whilst a lot of us are aware that 'sheep-worrying' by loose running dogs in fields can cause harm to unborn lambs, are we also aware that throughout the year this can cause great distress, leading to death in some cases, to all sheep? We can help prevent this by ensuring that, when we are walking dogs in fields where sheep are present, we keep our dogs under control. There have recently been sightings of instances where this is not always the case, potentially worrying the sheep who belong there.

Spring Clean for Stroud!

The sun shone very kindly on us on Sunday 2nd April when a record 23 volunteers turned up to collect litter in Stroud.

Armed with bin bags, hi viz and litterpickers kindly lent by The Landscape Group (Idverde UK) for The Great British Spring Clean, we managed to find enough bags of rubbish to fill several large wheelie bins to overflowing.

Coffee and cake was served in the garden afterwards, together with a good catch up with old friends and new.

Thank you to everyone who got involved and had a fun morning!

Pay for parking by Credit Card or Phone App

East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) has launched RingGo cashless parking as an alternative to pay and display in its car parks.
This enables users to pay via credit or debit card, instead of having to use cash at a machine (although if you prefer to use cash then you can).
It is accessible over the phone, by text, online or by using a free smartphone app. The App will also allow you to extent period if you overrun.
There is a fee of 20p in addition to the parking charge to use the service - which applies every time you use it, including extending an existing ticket using the App.

Fibre Optic broadband now available in Stroud

Chris Pearsall writes to say that high speed broadband is now available in the village. This means speeds of up to 40Mb for BT Infinity customers. TalkTalk are offering 38Mb, or for an extra £10/month (discounted to £5/month for a limited period) 76Mb.

Footpath Improvements at Rothercombe Farm

We are aware that some of the stiles at Rothercombe Farm are in need of some considerable repair, perhaps even replacing. With the advice and support of the Countryside Service and with agreement from the Parish Council we have decided to replace eight of our old wooden stiles with metal kissing gates. We have been awarded some part-funding from the Small Grants Scheme Countryside Access to help us achieve this. This will help improve access across our farm, particularly for those of you who have dogs. The gates are designed to fall shut therefore minimising the risk of our sheep escaping (which they do so love to do!!). The eight chosen stiles are around the lower part of the farm as they are in the most need of repair and work will be completed by the end of March.

In the longer term, the plan will be to replace all our remaining stiles with kissing gates leading all the way up to the Hangers. We are also hoping to continue with our permanent sheep fencing to eliminate the need for electric fencing to cross the footpaths.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your consideration when walking on our farm and for respecting the livestock, particularly at lambing time.

Sheep Rolling

Sheep are not the most intelligent of animals. They occasionally roll over to scratch their backs without realising that they cannot get back again, with fatal consequences. So, if when out and about you spot a cast (upside down) sheep please could you either roll her back upright or contact Andrew as soon as possible on 07976 449412 so that he can minimise this tragic waste of life?

Classified Advertisments
We have added a Classifieds (For Sale, Free, Wanted or Swop) section to the website. We hope this will get locals giving/selling stuff to each other rather than taking it to the dump. Note that this is for locals only and personal, individual advertising, not commercial.
